  • In 4K (4K DCI Blackmagic RAW) the sensor crops in, so stand about 1.5× farther back for the same framing — or go wider. In 5.7K, about 1.07× farther.
  • 18 mm is too wide for a head-and-shoulders shot: the camera would sit in your guest’s lap. Use it for the wide.
  • Two-shot = two people side by side, about 2.2 m across. A dash means the lens is too long for that framing in a normal room.

How to pick

A lens for every job at the table.

A typical podcast setup is one wide camera plus one close-up per person. Here’s which lens does which job.

  • The wide

    Sigma 18–35 at 18–24 mm

    About 2–2.5 m (6.5–8 ft) back

Holds the whole table. The f/1.8 aperture also makes it the best lens for dim rooms.

  • The close-ups

Sigma at 35 mm, or Tamron 24–70 at 50–70 mm

    1.2–2.4 m (4–8 ft) from the face

One camera per face. The longer Tamron lets the camera sit farther away, out of your guest’s eyeline.

  • From the back of the room

    Tamron 70–200

    3.5–7 m (11–23 ft) away

Panels, stages and red carpets, where the camera can’t get close. Mount the tripod plate to the lens’s own tripod foot, not the camera.

  • Your own lens
