1. About this agreement

This rental agreement is between Tinseltown Rentals (“we”, “us”), and the person who makes the booking (“you”). It applies to every booking made on this website. When you tick the agreement box and pay, you accept it for yourself and for anyone who uses the gear with you.

You must be 18 or older to rent. “The kit” or “the gear” means everything in your booking: cameras, lenses, tripods, drives, batteries, cables, chargers, cases and any lights.

2. Your rental period

  • Your rental starts at the pickup time and ends at the return time in your confirmation.
  • Pickups and returns are by appointment in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, in 30-minute steps.
  • The minimum rental is 5 hours, booked at least 2 hours ahead.
  • Kits are checked, charged and formatted between rentals (we keep a 3-hour turnaround window), so someone else may be booked soon after your return time.

3. Pickup, ID and return

  • Bring a government-issued photo ID that matches the name on the card you paid with. Without it, we can’t hand over the kit.
  • We walk you through the kit, and you check it before you leave. We may photograph the gear at pickup and return to record its condition.
  • Return the kit to the same place at your booked return time, complete and in the condition you received it, apart from normal wear.
  • The exact pickup address is sent with your confirmation. Please don’t share it.

4. Payment

  • You pay the rental total when you book, through Stripe’s secure checkout. Prices are in US dollars.
  • Your card is saved by Stripe at checkout for the deposit hold and for any charges this agreement allows.
  • Book-ahead discounts and the minimum total for each length (Quick Shoot $40, Same-Day $45, Full Day and longer $50) are applied automatically.
  • If you have a discount code, enter it before you pay. A valid code can lower the price or waive the deposit hold — exactly as shown on the booking page before you pay. One code per booking.

5. Deposit hold and charges to your card

  • Amount: a $300 refundable deposit hold for up to 3 cameras, plus $100 for each camera over 3.
  • What it is: an authorization hold, not a charge. It’s placed on the morning of pickup — at 8:00 AM, or one hour before an earlier pickup, or as soon as you book if that’s later.
  • Release: we release the hold within 24–48 hours of return; your bank may take a few days to show it.
  • If the hold can’t be placed (for example, the card declines or is prepaid), we send you a link to add a card. The kit isn’t handed over until a hold is in place.
  • Waived by a code: if a valid discount code waived the deposit hold, no hold is placed for that booking; your booking page and confirmation email say so. You’re still responsible for the gear under this agreement.
  • Authorization to charge: you authorize us to capture all or part of the hold, and to charge the card you saved at checkout, for amounts you owe under this agreement: repair or replacement of damaged, lost or stolen gear (section 6), late returns (section 7), missing items, and unusual cleaning (section 10). We email you an itemized explanation of any charge.

6. Responsibility for the gear

From pickup until we check the kit back in, the gear is in your care.

  • You’re responsible for loss, theft and damage, up to the gear’s replacement value — except normal wear from careful use.
  • For damaged gear you pay the reasonable cost of repair, up to its replacement value. For lost or stolen gear you pay its replacement value. We’ll tell you the replacement value of any item on request.
  • If gear is stolen, report it to the police and to us within 24 hours and send us the police report.
  • No insurance certificate needed. Instead we place a refundable hold on your card. The hold is not a limit on what you owe, and it isn’t insurance. Your own production or equipment insurance may cover rented gear; whether to carry it is up to you.

7. Late returns

  • Tell us as soon as you know you’ll be late. If nobody has the kit booked after you, we may extend your booking instead.
  • Late returns are billed per started hour at the hourly equivalent of your booking: your rental price divided by the hours you booked. For example, a 3-camera Quick Shoot is $50 for 5 hours, so each started late hour is $10.
  • If a late return means the next renter’s booking can’t go ahead as planned, you also pay the reasonable costs that causes, such as their refund or a replacement rental.
  • If the kit isn’t back within 24 hours of your return time and we can’t reach you, we may treat it as lost and report it (section 6).

8. Cancellations and changes

  • 48 hours or more before pickup: full refund.
  • 24–48 hours before pickup: 50% refund.
  • Less than 24 hours before pickup, or a missed pickup: no refund.
  • Times are measured from your booked pickup time. Refunds go to the card you paid with, and any deposit hold is released.
  • To cancel or change a booking, reply to your confirmation email or use your booking page. Changes depend on availability; if the price changes, we confirm the new total with you first.
  • If we have to cancel — for example, because gear fails before your pickup — you get a full refund.

9. How you may use the gear

  • Use it lawfully, for your own production, within the United States.
  • Don’t rent, lend or hand the gear to anyone outside your production. No subrenting.
  • Don’t open, modify or repair the gear, change its firmware, or remove its labels.
  • Keep it away from rain, water, sand and extreme heat, and never leave it unattended in a vehicle.
  • Ask us first before using it anywhere with an obvious risk of damage, such as on water, near pyrotechnics or on a moving vehicle.

10. Care, footage and returning the kit

  • Return every item packed in its case, the way you received it. You don’t need to charge the batteries first.
  • Your footage is your responsibility. Copy it before you return the kit: we format every drive between rentals and can’t recover footage afterward.
  • If gear comes back needing more than normal cleaning (sand, liquid, smoke), we may charge the reasonable cost.

11. If something doesn’t work

  • Tell us right away, by chat or by replying to your confirmation email. We’ll help you troubleshoot and, if a spare is free, swap the faulty item.
  • If gear we provided fails and we can’t fix or replace it, we refund the rental for the affected gear and time.
  • Our total liability for any booking is limited to the amount you paid for it. We aren’t responsible for lost footage, missed shoots or other indirect losses — which is why we ask you to test the kit at pickup and back up your footage.

12. Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California. If something goes wrong, contact us first; most problems are solved with a conversation. If we can’t resolve it, either of us may bring a claim in small claims court in Los Angeles County, or otherwise in the state or federal courts in Los Angeles County, California.

If any part of this agreement can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. We may update this agreement; the version on this page when you book is the one that applies to your booking.
